The good news…
The construction of Redpoint Climbing Centre has been an exciting, frustrating, exhilarating, creative, painstaking and exhausting experience. The good news is that we are nearly there, and we can’t wait for you all to enjoy it.
Last week we took delivery of hundreds of Petzl quickdraws as part of our sponsorship deal with Lyon Equipment and the walls are now thoroughly populated with them. The safety flooring is here and will be laid over the weekend. We've taken delivery of the last lorry full of Entre-prises holds, tufas and macros which we added to the 6000 or so holds that we already have from Bendcrete, Bleaustone, HRT, King Kong, French Rock and Metolius.
On Monday the bouldering matting goes in for Mirf's bouldering cave and although we are still waiting for Entre-prises to install the the mezzanine bouldering wall, there will be plenty to go at before it gets here.
Routesetting is underway, the routes we have been busy planning in our heads are going up, and the weird and wonderful shapes we’ve been filling the space with over the last few months are coming together to form a frankly rocking climbing wall.
Our electricians have put in the new lighting and every day looks like Summer now. The fire alarm system and emergency lighting are going in as we type. The toilet block may well turn out to be the poshest in climbing wall history, the reception area is just one day or so from completion and we have taken delivery of our bespoke membership system courtesy of DMFL, which works brilliantly.
Dom and his team have been busy too and the Rock On shop is full of shiny shelves and brackets waiting to be filled with climbing gear.
All in all the walls are finished and all the routes will be set by the 28th so we are psyched. But we all have to wait a little longer yet...
… the bad news…
We haven’t made it this far without learning that there is inevitably a catch. The bad news is that unfortunately, we will have to delay our big opening date just a bit longer, so that some necessary signing off of building works can be completed.
We’re sorry, some stuff is beyond the control of our scheduling but we hope that if you’ve stuck with us this long, you’ll continue to be patient for the further week or two we need.
… and the silver lining.
In the meantime, we thought we’d invite those of you that are on the mailing list to come and have a sneak preview. We are having an open evening on 28th Jan from 6pm till 10pm (cause we know some of you have got that date in your diary). Numbers are slightly limited so you'll have to email us to bagsy a place. No climbing as such but we are very proud of our little wall and would love you have the chance to see what we have in store for you.
