Pictures to get you all psyched

By popular request..

Here's some pictures to give you a taster of some of the shapes that we have been creating at the far end of the room.

We now have around 75% of the steel up and about 25% of the panels are up and ready for the final paint job, then its just bolt hangers and holds to go.

All of the walls have been specifically designed so that, with imaginative routesetting, even the steepest ones will be climbable at a variety of grades without the easy routes just being a jug-romp.

  • The Archangel arête … only with more footholds…and steeper… and with bolts....and with coloured holds (eventually!)
  • Mirf's slate groove, ready for those Quarryman style acrobatics.
  • The big fin - steep on one side and vertical on the other with lots of space beneath your feet.
  • What may be the largest indoor free hanging stalactyte with varying steepness on all four sides.
The Archangel Arete The Groove The Fin The Big Stalactyte

Hope you like them!

Wow they look great, how on earth will I get my fat, lardy, out of practice backside up any of those I just don't know !

It makes me think when filling in the registration form should I enter the grades I used to climb or the fact I'd struggle up a ladder today ? ;-)

Speaking as one of the few climbers heavy enough to belay BinaryJam, I look forward to laughing hysterically at the bottom of the arête for many a lazy Sunday morning.

Of course, I'm sure my lard bound torso will give BJ plenty of opportunities to return the compliment :)

Seriously though, this looks great!

It looks amazing - great to see the results not only of all your hard work but also of using your imagination. Can't wait to laugh my lardy ass off these either.

sweeeeeeeeet. If that is only 25% of the pannels then then the remaining 75% will have me runnin to the flight centre to book me a ticket. nice work fellas. looks like it needs one of my anti friction paint jobs. te he!!!!!

Thanks for the photos. Looks great. Don't understand why you have not frictioned the panels though, hope your going to do this before the paint job. Looking forward to tackling that groove, i'm sure that Rob's gonna put something taxing through that section.

All the panels ARE 'frictioned' !! (apart from the groove which would be too easy to bridge without any holds if it was)

Pretty amazing place phil! Looks like a place where magical fairies live and spawn elk like mirf! Everyone appreciates the hard work you've put it and the paint job looks immense! x

Blimey......Now I need to find a job in birmingham and give you a large portion of my wage. Oh, and learn to climb like a demon.

Looks fantastic and I would second the comment about great use of your imagination. Really can't wait to see it. Do you have an estimated opening date yet?!

Making my feet tingle and palms sweat just looking at it... I think you can all be very proud of what you've achieved, especially considering the mill you all went through to get here.

hi cant wait until you open have you got a date in January yet. I was also wanted to know how high your walls are going to be. Many thanks Dan

Comment #14, posted by Mirf 04/12/2007 10:55:37

Hi Daniel, the end of January is predicted for our opening. Our highest wall is 14 metres, the design of the climbing surfaces and the variety of shapes will create great potential for some much longer action packed routes.

Those are of course, the Standard S.I. Elastic Metres as favoured by Anglers, Guidebook Writers and Climbing Wall Providers worldwide ;)

Hi Dannie, the prices on the price list are for as long as your arms will last, all day if they'll last that long.
