Paula on the stal

We’ve got 52 lines with over 200 routes, set through some spectacular ground and graded to suit all abilities. Slabs, overhangs, arêtes, corners, grooves, roofs, arches and our notorious stalactite offer a huge range of grades routes from 2+ to 8b, (for traditionalists, that’s about Diff to E9 in old money) with plenty of mid-range grades available for lead climbing or top roping. We also feature one of the few indoor ‘Yorkshire VS’ cracks in the country, to test your jamming skills!

Things you should know about Redpoint:

The Routes

Everything is “in play”. We constructed Redpoint with the aim of creating varied routes across different shapes and angles. It would be a shame to set routes which don’t incorporate all the features, arêtes and anything else you can usefully reach, so unless we specifically state otherwise, feel free to climb using everything. It feels much more natural!

By extension, Redpoint routes don’t just go up and down. We’ve deliberately designed them to be very 3-dimensional - wandering from panel to panel, swinging underneath arches and sneaking round corners. This is one of the reasons that we have a reputation for great routes, it makes life much more interesting but means you that you do need to pay extra attention and talk to your neighbours!

Top-roping

40 Top-ropes up to 12.5m vertical height. Grades from 2+ to 7c+ in all manner of shapes and sizes. Our crafty designs mean that even on a top-rope you can climb plenty of exciting routes and gain the experience and the confidence to make the leap into leading if you fancy it.

Leading

We do have 12 dedicated leading walls, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to them. 31 of our top-roped routes are also fully equipped with quickdraws and separate lower-offs, so you can lead anything that takes your fancy!

For newcomers to leading this can be a great way to get started, as you can hone your clipping skills on routes that you are already familiar with. When there's room, you can try some extensions to the routes or even make up your own and enjoy the adventure!

Grading

We grade proper! We don’t believe in flattering our users by massaging the grades to suit people's egos. We like to think that if you can lead a 6b at Redpoint, you can lead a 6b outdoors. At the same time, we’re aware that all grading can be a matter of opinion, so do let us know if you think we need to adjust something. We might just be able to offer you some advice about a different way to try the move. Grades are always a hot topic at climbing walls but from the feedback we’ve had so far, we think we’ve got them about right!

Bouldering

more scuibl

We are currently extending our bouldering facilities with a massive development in the building next door. We are aiming for the project to be completed around Sept 2010.
Watch the website or ask at reception for the latest news.

In the meantime, boulderers are well catered for with Mirf's fiendish Cave and our purpose built Entréprises bouldering wall providing endless stimulation for muscles and minds.

We are constantly setting and tweaking problems and aim to completely reset each wall every couple of months,

We currently have over 80 problems from V0 to V10, all clearly marked and 4 bouldering circuits:

Easy - problems from V0 to V3
Medium - problems from V2 to V5
Hard - problems V3 to V7
And Expert - problems V5 to V10

You will be pleased to know that our bouldering mats are cleaned every day, so you won't look like you've fallen into a chalkbag when you leave!
